Canadian. A pastel on paper by Alfred Worsley Holdstock (1820-1901) titled by the artist, “Headwaters of the Bonnechere River, C.W.” (Canada West), lower left. Superb detail and rich Fall colours. Alfred Worsley Holdstock was a prolific 19th-century landscape painter and educator who became a significant figure in documenting the early Canadian frontier. Born in Bath, England, and educated at Oxford University, Holdstock immigrated to Montreal in 1850. Roberts Gallery label on the back. Unsigned, Ontario. 3rd quarter 19th century.
